Low saturated and no trans fats

to help reduce the risk of heart disease

Bon Matin® Healthy Way® with ProCardio Recipe™ breads contain good fats. A healthy diet low in saturated and trans fats may reduce the risk of heart disease.

All fats are not equal. There are good fats and bad fats and fat must be consumed in moderation. New Bon Matin® Healthy Way® with ProCardio Recipe™ products are low in bad fats, but contain more good fats.

Good fats (lipids) fall into two categories.

  1. Polyunsaturated fats (Omega-6 and Omega-3):
They are considered healthy fats because they have a positive impact on blood lipids. The main sources of Omega-6 are corn, soybean and sunflower oil. The main sources of Omega-3 are fish, flaxseed, flax oil and canola oil.
  2. Monounsaturated fats (Omega-9):
Avocados, most nuts and seeds, and olive, canola and peanut oils are good sources of monounsaturated fats.

Both types of fat can help reduce your blood cholesterol! Simply replace some of the saturated fats in your diet with good fats.

Bad fats (lipids) also fall into two categories:

  1. Saturated fats have a bad reputation because excess consumption increases the level of “bad” cholesterol in the blood. Some sources include products such as butter, cheese and whole milk.
  2. Trans fats have an adverse effect on blood cholesterol. Trans fats are now banned in most food products.

How can I control my consumption of bad fats?

Check the amount of trans fat on the Nutrition Facts table. Combined with saturated fatty acids, they should not provide more than 10% of the daily value per serving.
